Ann Arbor Summer Festival

2013 Ann Arbor Summer Festival

The 2013 Ann Arbor Summer Festival will present a wide range of artistic talents from across the world. The festival will be held from Friday June 14th to Sunday July 7th. The Ann Arbor Summer Festival provides several outdoor free events at Top of the Park, including several events for children. The indoor events require tickets to attend and can be purchased at the University of Michigan. Each year, the festival strives to be eco-friendly encouraging food and beverage vendors to use biodegradable packaging and cups. In addition, several events are organized for children to teach them about the environment and ways to contribute back to nature. The 2013 festival has several events scheduled that will bring a diversity of many styles of art and performances for the attendees of the event.

Music and Dance

An up and coming foursome from Edinburgh, Django Django, will perform. The band released their first album last year that was met with positive reception for their collaboration of eighties and sixties pop music. A European dance group, “Les 7 Doigts de la Main”, will perform their acrobatic dance performance. This group is well-renowned for performing during the Winter Olympics at Turin and has performed in twenty-five different countries.

Unique Events

Several events that provide a unique style of art will also be presented during this year’s festival. A CGI event, titled Superhero, allows participants to become their own superhero and act out super powers on a big screen. Another event, Tangle, is a family oriented event that incorporates spontaneous creations by weaving different colored ribbons together to create one big piece of art. This event allows individuals to participate and create their own unique visions while having fun with family and friends.

History

The Ann Arbor Summer Festival was founded by Eugene Power in 1984. With help from the University of Michigan and the city of Ann Arbor, the first festival featured several movies and theater performances. Over time, the festival developed into a diversified event that featuring music, dancing, art exhibits, and theatrical performances. The festival is a great opportunity for established artists to present their talents. It is also a great opportunity for new and upcoming artists to perform. Some performers are local residents while others have traveled from across the world to share their talents.

Wrapping Up Events

Each year, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival strives to become bigger and better providing more events and opportunities for the citizens of Ann Arbor. The festival is known as one of the biggest multi-art festivals in the nation, and with its unique events and community participation, it can only continue to grow with each coming year. Keller Williams RED Day Today!

Keller Williams RED Day

Keller Williams has a culture that I am very proud of and today is no different. RED Day (which stands for Renew, Energize and Donate) is an initiative that thousands of Keller Williams associates participate in across the country and Canada as an expression of our company’s year-round dedication to service and aiding our local communities. Every year on the second Thursday of the month of May, Keller Williams associates choose a project that they are passionate about and donate their time to assist others in need. This year our team is honored to be working with Avalon Housing at one of their properties! The property we are working on today was acquired by Avalon Housing in 2007 and offers affordable housing and free support services to individuals that need assistance in fighting homelessness.

Working with Avalon Housing on RED Day

While we always feel rewarded in helping our clients find homes, today is all the more rewarding to have the opportunity to assist those individuals in need that may not otherwise have a home! Today we have the opportunity to work in the Community Garden as well as on the home itself. It was a wonderful experience for everyone!

Spring is a Time for Renewal – Take to the Outdoors

TulipsSpring is a time for renewal. We all know the familiar saying, “April Showers Bring May Flowers.”  The last day of April actually did just that.  There was rain in the morning hours and sunshine in the late afternoon here in the Ann Arbor area.  The daffodils and tulips are blooming and the forsythia branches are shining bright.  I know, I know – there is still snow on the ground in some of the Northern areas in the state of Michigan.  I am glad Ann Arbor is looking green.  Take to the outdoors, if you are able, and breath the fresh air, enjoy the warm temperatures – renew yourself with the sights and sounds of nature.

When I was out for a short walk today, in this beautiful Spring weather, I was thinking about how grateful I am for my family and friends that have referred The Toth Team Real Estate Services to their circle of friends and co-workers.   Referrals are a very important part of our success.  We truly value the trust and confidence you have in The Toth Team when you recommend us to others that are thinking of listing or selling their home.  You are the BEST.  And if you, personally, need any real estate assistance, call us today.

Here is the May Schedule of Events at Hudson Mill Metropark.  Take some time this weekend to renew your spirit; step outside and enjoy the weather.   Head out to Hudson Mills Metropark for a little recreation with friends and family.

Ann Arbor’s Alley Bar

Alley Bar Ann ArborLiving in Ann Arbor isn’t like living in a suburb. Locals love getting out, spending the night eating at delicious restaurants and seeing popular movies. And with great evening starters, you need to cap off the night with a fun experience — which can be found at the Alley Bar. As one of the most distinguishable buildings in Ann Arbor, the Alley Bar has built up a legendary reputation where locals can meet and enjoy a casual atmosphere of drinks. Located in downtown Ann Arbor, it commands a convenient location for people to cap off the night with a couple cocktails after a great time eating out. It’s the perfect mesh between creative mixers and favorite cheap beers. The atmosphere maintains the “Goldilocks” standard, where it keeps things casual, but not too casual for local residents. So, if you’re looking for a fun weekend out-on-the-town, Alley Bar is one place to go.

Bringing the Pickle Back

One of the Alley’s signature campaigns of late has been “bringing the pickle back.” When you first see one, you think it’s a shot of whiskey followed with a shot of pickle juice, but that’s not enough to describe the experience. Test your sour face and see why it has become a popular Ann Arbor drink. That’s the only way to understand the experience at the Alley Bar.

Milan, Michigan Real Estate Market is Trending Upward

Milan Michigan Real Estate Trending UPThere is a positive Upward Trend in the Milan Real Estate Market.  When reviewing the 24-month chart below, for the Milan, Michigan area, we need put our attention to the red line on the chart. The red line indicates an upward trend in the Linear (Average Square Foot / Sale Price).  The average square foot price is now hovering on the linear line around $70.00 per square foot for the month of November, 2011, as compared to November 2010 at approximately $67.00 per square foot. This year, compared to last year shows an approximate 5.36 percent increase in the average linear (sales price per square foot) in Milan. This upward trend in sales price per square foot is very good news for Sellers and REALTORs alike.  Home sales are down by 14.5 percent compared to last year’s total sales.  This shows that the market is flat in total volume of sales over 2 years, however, homes are selling at a higher square foot price which is a stabilizing factor over a 2-year time frame.  Our linear indicator is moving upward. No one’s complaining about this kind of good news as the year 2011 soon comes to a close.  All positive statistics are worth noting.

Buyers as well as Sellers should pay close attention to these indicators.  While trends are showing signs of a recovery, it’s a great time to take the next step to home ownership or listing your home for sale.  Call to schedule an appointment.

I would like to thank Peter W. Hendershot, State Licensed Real Estate Appraiser, Business Development Manager, Affinity Valuation Group for putting this chart together for all of us to analyze.  This data is shared with your local REALTORs, lenders, builders and lawyers so we can assist our clients and keep them informed of market conditions.

The Arts Benefit Entire Community: Chelsea Center for the Arts in Chelsea, MI

Chelsea Center for the Arts, 400 Congdon St., Chelsea, MI 48118
Chelsea Center for the Arts

Chelsea Center for the Arts in Chelsea, Michigan was formed in 1994 and is well underway to becoming one of the best new community non-profit organizations in the area. Their primary goal is to “enhance the quality of life in Chelsea and the surrounding area with programs that encourage participation and appreciation of the arts.”  They are working in conjunction with the Chelsea School District; the local Businesses; the Art Galleries; and the Chelsea District Library to form a complete community connection to the Arts.

Chelsea Center for the Arts is so successful due to a dedicated group of like-minded people filled with energy and really making a difference in their community.  They are busy offering creative programs to children, teens and adults in music, art instruction and literature.  Here is a list of just some of the programs offered.

You just may want to take your artistic talents and soar to new heights, so take some time to review The Chelsea Center for the Arts Scholarships and Tuition Assistance programs that are being offered.

  • A wide range of Music programs such as Parent & Child Music Lessons; Chelsea Children’s Choir; Youngest Singer; Music Together®; and a fun class called 88 Fingers.  Read more about these talented music Instructors and their areas of expertise.  To see of list of all the music courses offered at the Chelsea Center for the Arts click here.  You may also schedule private lessons for adults and students.
  • Visual Arts – Students and Adults can sign up for age appropriate art classes which will open up all your creative senses.  Classes start out with art for the preschooler’s as well as after-school art clubs.  They also have classes for Teens and Adults.
  •  For those wanting to work with Clay, they have classes at different levels that will give you confidence in working and manipulating your own clay designs.
  • Or how about Photography – one of my favorites.  In this digital age, learn how to take your digital camera pics to a whole new level.  I just may be signing up for this class.
  • And don’t forget Painting with classes that will stretch your imagination in a ‘no pressure’ environment using watercolor, acrylic or oils.  And as they say at the Center, “All painters are welcome.”
  • Do you want to express yourself with the fiber arts, they offer knitting and crocheting, adding a fresh new perspective.
  • In the Literary Arts, just this past September and October of 2011, they offered a great course for Writers entitled, “Mastering the Point of View.”  Keep an eye out for other literary courses that the Chelsea Center for the Arts may offer.

Non-Profit organizations grow through sponsorship and their patrons. Fund raising efforts are ongoing.  Thanks to the generous support from contributors, non-profit organizations like The Chelsea Center for the Arts can exist to “Develop, Foster, and Promote the Arts in Chelsea, Michigan and the surrounding area.”
