We moved to Dexter within six months of coming to the Ann Arbor area. We like small towns. When our first house became too small we decided to build in Dexter. By building only a mile from town we were close enough to make those quick trips to our daughters swim or music practice or to Busch’s for groceries. Yet we still have the benefits of living in the “country”. It is quiet and peaceful. We have neighbors but they are not right next door. Deer in the backyard are common, but we have also seen turkeys, raccoons, foxes, coyotes, rabbits and a stray squirrel or wood chuck. Not bad for being a mile from town.

There are many pub and pizza options in Dexter, plus there are many restaurants nearby on Jackson Rd. However, our favorite place is the Red Brick in Dexter. It’s not to pricy and we’ve never had a bad meal there.

Busch’s grocery store in Dexter has everything you could want. They are also supportive of community events.

Our house is close to town but out in the country. We wanted this as opposed to houses that were all similar in a big subdivision. It is very quiet and peaceful. We like the 1.3 acre size lot. There is a lot of potential if you like to landscape or garden.

Dexter has a small town atmosphere. The people are very friendly. If you move to Dexter we’d recommend becoming involved in the community through volunteer organizations like the Lion’s club or a church. It’s a great way to meet the people who grew up here and a chance for you to become a part of Dexter. We did not want to be people who looked at Dexter only as a place to come and sleep for the night but as a place to become a part of. Also the schools are top notch. Both our daughters started here in 1st grade and are now in graduate school at State. The school programs are terrific – we’d recommend the Orchestra Program.

Come and enjoy the seasons. In the fall Dexter schools start up and there are festivals like Apple days. In the winter we are close to Huron River drive. This road is one of the first plowed after a snow storm. In the spring the 21 lilac bushes we planted are all in bloom. And in the summer everything is green and its time to go fishing.

We love being close to the lakes (Pinckney recreation area) and the Metro parks. There is fishing (both summer and winter), swimming and biking. You can even see the fireworks from our house at Hudson Mills over the trees to the north.

Our utility costs are average for a house of this size.
