Now in its 53rd year, the Ann Arbor Art Fair, established back in 1960 contains more than just visual art – it also includes live entertainment too! This years original art fair was held between July July 18 through July 21, 2012 and attracted large crowds.  Art wasn’t just on display, but also available for purchase. Everything from jewelry, 2D and 3D-mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics and more was on offer! The fair also offered plenty of free activities too including some mini art workshops by artists showing how their art is created.

Each year the event is a chance for new/up and coming artists to exhibit and get recognized. The fair is great for Ann Arbor’s economy too; A survey study on the Ann Arbor Art Fair had been conducted by Power Marketing back in 2008 which concluded that the fair had a large economic impact on the surrounding area, not just through selling art! Hotels made $5 million. Dining establishments made $25.2 million, and $48.7 million went toward shopping during the fair. Wow!

In addition to the new artists, there were some old favorites such as Mr. B, who has performed his boogie-woogie piano at the fair for three decades, he played all day, every day on North University near Ingalls Mall. Definitely a sound that needs to be heard.  While you are at the University of Michigan Union on State Street take a rest at the Union and stop outside and get your picture at the Cube, also known as “Endover” by artist Tony Rosenthal.

So as you can see, Ann Arbor is such a unique place to call home!
