Ypsilanti Real Estate
Although the name may seem a bit odd, Ypsilanti is a traditional American Midwestern town in many aspects—rich in history, blessed with natural beauty and filled with friendly faces. But Ypsilanti definitely has its own unique character and charm, too. Historically a centerpiece for the American automotive industry, the Ypsilanti of today has developed a reputation that blends its heritage with a focus on the arts. Ypsilanti’s real estate market is just as vibrant as its past and present.
Bordering Ann Arbor, home of the University of Michigan and with Eastern Michigan University within its own city limits, Ypsilanti is continuously renewed with new residents who may come for an education, but stay because of its quality of life. Cultural attractions abound, and the natural environment maintained in the area is popular for residents and visitors alike.
Ypsilanti has the second largest historic district in Michigan, running from downtown Ypsilanti, along Michigan Avenue, to the “Depot Town” area to nearby Frog Island Park and Riverside Park. Historical homes and businesses line the streets, enhancing visitors and residents’ enjoyment of leisurely strolls and stops in the many specialty shops, dining establishments and taverns. Local museums include the Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum, located on the site of the former dealership of Preston Tucker, whose story was told in the “Tucker” directed by Francis Ford Coppola; and the Michigan Firehouse Museum, dedicated to preserving the state’s firefighting history.
Known for its summer festivals, Ypsilanti residents know how to have a good time in the area known as “Depot Town.” Here residents join in the fun of the annual Heritage Festival, dance to music at the Elvis Festival, admire the vehicles at the Orphan Car Festival and enjoy a cold brew at the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival. The Riverside Arts Center, established in 1994, overlooks Riverside Park and offers a 1,115 seat theatre, art gallery and more. With the nearby Ford Lake and Huron River, residents and visitors of Ypsilanti have additional options for outdoor recreation, enhancing the city’s many community parks.
